How buying a private plate works

Every plate here is ours to sell, so you deal with one seller from the first message to the transfer.

  1. Send an enquiry

Pick a plate and tell us how to reach you. Nothing is reserved and no payment is taken at this stage.

  2. We confirm price and availability

We reply personally with the total to pay, including any transfer or administration charges, before you agree to anything.

  3. Pay and transfer

Once you have paid, the registration is transferred to you through the DVLA: straight onto your vehicle, or held on a certificate in your name until you are ready.

  4. Fit your plates

When the DVLA confirms the change, have plates made by a registered number plate supplier and put them on the car.

Questions before you enquire

If yours is not here, ask it in your enquiry and we will answer when we reply.

Can I buy a number plate immediately?

You start with an enquiry for any plate listed here. We confirm availability and the final price, then arrange payment and the transfer with you directly.

Is the advertised price the final price?

The advertised figure is the asking price for the registration. We confirm the total payable, including any transfer or administration charges, before you agree to go ahead.

Will this plate fit my car?

The DVLA will not put a registration on a vehicle if it makes the vehicle look newer than it is. Every plate page shows the earliest registration date it suits. Dateless plates can go on a vehicle of any age.

What if I do not have the car yet?

A registration can be held on a DVLA certificate until you are ready to assign it to a vehicle, so you can secure the plate first and choose the car later.

Why do some plates have no price?

A few registrations are offered as price on request. Send an enquiry and we will tell you the asking price.

What does “reads as” mean?

It is our reading of the characters, the name or word the plate suggests. The registration itself is shown with its recorded spacing. On a vehicle, plates must always use the legal font and spacing, and DVLA assignment rules apply.

Only one of each exists. When it sells, it is gone.
